Same thing happens for me but all you need to do is click the taskbar, then click the wows icon and the window should go fullscreen. The most fucking annoying thing about windowed mode right now is playing on windows 8 with two monitors. I bring up the goddamn side bar or click the windows logo in the bottom left so many times.

Yes. Fullscreen is gone. Windowed Full screen is your best bet. If you want to get to your desktop quickly on a Windows PC, use this shortcut: Windows Key + D. That'll let you 'minimize' WoW, sort of. ALT+TAB and click the bottom right of the windows taskbar (bar on bottom of screen, to the right of the clock).

Roll back your drives to a version prior to the last update, and it'll fix this problem. I'm getting this too after updating go the latest NVIDIA driver. Going to roll back my driver's since I uninstalled Cyberpunk. It's a shame the game is shit.
Here's what I do, right click on your WoW shortcut and click Proprieties, in the Target field, after the " type -windowed (with a space between the quotation mark and the hyphen.) This will start WoW in windowed mode. To switch back to normal mode, go to Video Options and uncheck Windowed Mode.

Opening the launcher and selecting either version brings up the play button, and upon pressing it, it shows the game is running message as normal right before it drops to desktop, where normally there is a short delay while the game loads into the selection screen. Only now, it never does, just displays the desktop.

Common fixes include: clicking taskbar then clicking WoW, right clicking WoW icon on taskbar, alt-tab to desktop or another program then back, clicking the tiny bar on the very bottom right corner of the taskbar then clicking WoW icon. It features updated audio compared to the original version, a Windows-native executable instead of a DOS one, and a multiplayer infrastructure on Battle.net which had by then already been used in Diablo and StarCraft.
However, upon trying to play wow with my new fancy monitor I have black bars on the side. Unfortunately I didn't find any settings within WoW to fix the problem so I tried another game (Overwatch). Originally, I started out with the same issue but immediately found that my aspect ratio was set to 16:9 and changing it to 21:9 solved the issue.

You can see this in action when you have a game running in full-screen, exclusive mode. If you Alt+Tab out of it, you can hover over the game's taskbar icon or press Alt+Tab again.

Sep 2, 2019 · I fixed this exact problem by going in WOW install folder, making a shortcut for wow.exe and then running it as administrator. Using windows 10 btw.
Sounds like your video card is dying. Try to download the lastest drivers of your gpu and make a clean re-install. Nvidia asks you this options when you udpate drivers. (all custom changes of your gpu settings will be removed) Thankyou for the advice. Ill give it a go.
