If you look at the plunger you can see it rotates 90 degrees to engage with the tab on the flap. Was inconvenient with fuel running low. I rushed to the nearest dealer and a mechanic forced the flap open with a screwdriver. He said the VAG flap solenoids fail regularly.

The microswitches that sense the door is closed are dodgy and break. Also the solder joint on the circuit board inside the door lock mechanism crack. So far i`ve sorted both front locks with a new microswitch (abou £1.30 ea. from RS Components) and resoldered the pins on the board. Took about 2 hrs per door including taking the door to bits..

I suspected the 5 year old remote might be the problem, so today I used the unused spare key. Now the remote locks all doors etc properly, but will only open the drivers door. The other doors can be opened by using the switch near the gear lever or by pressing the unlock button on the remote twice quickly.

Thanks Julesandtash, you guided me to the exact same problem with my 2002 l and k octavia. The red/yellow wire did not have 12V at the door window motor module (the plug was hard to get off until I realised there was a locking slider on it, pull the bottom part of the plug to the right!)and when I unpicked the loom at the door hinge I found the break in the red/yellow wire.
